This winery is truly special. It's located on Tasmania, an island near Australia. It's named after Abel Janszoon Tasman, the Dutch explorer who discovered Tasmania in 1642. Janzs has been active on the island since 1975. Initially, their production was modest, but after a partnership with Louis Roederer was established in 1986, things took off. The wines are often called the Champagne of Australia. Once you try a bottle of Jansz Premium Non-Vintage Brut Cuvée, you'll immediately understand why.

The vineyards of Jansz Premium Brut Cuvee

The vineyards are located in the northeast of Tasmania. This area is slightly cooler than the rest of the island. The climate is comparable to the French Champagne region. Therefore, the transition to sparkling wines was an easy one. Just like Champagne, Jansz Premium Non Vintage Brut Cuvée uses Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This sparkling wine is aged using the same traditional method as Champagne, resulting in a characteristic mousse.

The aroma and taste of Jansz Premium Brut Cuvee

The moment you pop the cork on this wine, the enjoyment begins. The aroma of Jansz Premium Non Vintage Brut Cuvée is easily mistaken for champagne. A subtle aroma of brioche and citrus is instantly recognizable. Take a sip, and the corners of your mouth will turn upward. A silky mousse tickles your taste buds. Nuances of citrus and peach are clearly discernible. This makes us happy. We're not the only ones who are big fans of Jansz Premium Non Vintage Brut Cuvée. Officially, this wine comes from Australia. However, its origins are unique. Not a large wine region, but one of the smallest, most unknown wine regions in the world. This Dalrymple Cave Block Chardonnay comes from Pipers Valley. This is a small village with only a few hundred inhabitants, located in the northern tip of Tasmania. Tasmania, that's right. The island, part of Australia, is very unknown to wine lovers. But the few wines produced there are of astronomically high quality.

The Chardonnay vineyard of Dalrymple Cave

Dalrymple is a relatively young winery. Dalrymple only began producing wine in the Pipers Valley in the late 1980s. They boast some of the finest vineyards Tasmania has to offer. Tasmania's climate is actually much more conducive to wine production than its larger counterpart, Australia. The temperate climate makes grapes like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay perfectly suited. The grapes for Dalrymple Cave Block Chardonnay are grown in vineyards with a unique microclimate. This benefits the grapes and the resulting juice. It's truly delicious! The grapes are harvested between late April and early April. This is relatively late, considering that harvest in the Southern Hemisphere sometimes begins as early as February. This allows the grapes to develop fully. Harvesting is manual, and all grapes undergo rigorous selection before being used in Dalrymple Cave Block Chardonnay.

Wood aging for the Dalrymple Vineyards Single Site Pipers River Chardonnay

The grapes are pressed in oak barrels and then aged for several months on the lees. This gives the wine its mature character, without ever becoming overly heavy. Dalrymple Cave Block Chardonnay offers an explosion of aromas and flavors upon opening this white wine. Ripe tropical fruit intersperses with stone fruit. Nectarine, white peach, and a hint of fresh mango. Orange blossoms rise from the glass. The aroma is friendly and pleasant. Because the wine is not too heavy, the finish is fresh, with subtle notes of citrus fruit. A special glass of Chardonnay, a wine you won't easily savor. Dalrymple Cave Block Chardonnay is a classic example of what's unfamiliar, because we've secretly fallen in love with this wine.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/dalrymple-cave-block-chardonnay_10955.webp?v=1770121060
dalrymple-pinot-noir
Dalrymple Pinot Noir
A rarity. A unique glass of wine. Dalrymple Pinot Noir is a red wine you don't just find. This Pinot Noir is technically Australian-made. But this glass of Australian red wine doesn't come from any of Australia's well-known wine regions. The origin of this beautiful Pinot Noir is Pipers Valley, a tiny wine town in Northern Tasmania. Yep, you read that right: Tasmania. The small island southeast of Australia. If this Dalrymple is a special red wine, we don't know what is. A unique one, and something you don't often encounter.

Dalrymple's finest Pinot Noir wine

Although Tasmania produces very few wines, it boasts an ideal climate for grapes. The climate is comparable to that of northern and central France. In this temperate climate, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are primarily grown, two grape varieties that thrive in the Dalrymple vineyards.

At Dalrymple, the motto is: the glass is half full. This Pinot Noir is no exception. Pleasant, loving, and elegant. Just a few keywords that perfectly describe this Dalrymple Pinot Noir. It's a special glass you'll fall in love with. It all starts with the aroma. This isn't just any wine; this is fantastic. Numerous aromas greet your nose. You'll smell blueberries, cranberries, and cassis. But the friendly, spicy character for which Pinot Noir is known also clearly shines through in this Dalrymple wine. The aroma develops, and complex notes emerge. Think licorice and a hint of black olive. Delicate and elegant. We can't wait to take a sip.

The red wine from Tasmania

The moment you take a sip, it feels special. Because let's be honest: you don't drink a glass of Tasmanian red wine every day. Let alone a Tasmanian wine of such high quality! Ripe fruit forms the foundation of the complex flavor palette. Despite the variety of aromas and flavors, Dalrymple remains light and fresh on the palate. The acidity is balanced and not overpowering. You can taste the spice subtly on the tip of your tongue. A fantastic red wine. Highly recommended.
