Vesevo also has vineyards further inland. Around the tiny village of Tufo, a well-known wine connoisseur, Vesevo also owns vineyards. This village is the source of the renowned Greco di Tufop wine, one of the region's most prestigious wines.

The Greco grape

Tufo is known for its wines made from the Greco grape. But why? This region, called Avellino, is part of Campania. It lies north of Naples. This area is known for its dry, sun-drenched climate. The soil is poor, volcanic (partly due to the presence of Mount Vesuvius), and chock-full of granite. Few grapes can survive in these extreme conditions. The Greco grape, however, thrives in these soils. In recent years, more and more wineries have ventured into this distinctive grape. These investments have paid off, and Greco di Tufo is now considered one of the finest wines Campania has to offer.

The scent and taste of Vesevo Greco di Tufo

Sometimes you have wines where everything is just right. Well, Vesevo Greco di Tufo is one of those wines. It's no wonder it's one of the Campania wines with DOCG status, the highest quality mark you can achieve for Italian wines. Vesevo Greco di Tufo is refined, elegant, and aromatic. The aroma is unique and opulent. Complexity reigns supreme. Your nose discovers notes of ripe pears combined with honeyed almonds. A complex aroma that suggests a fine glass of wine. Take a sip of this Italian wine and you'll be amazed. You'll taste distinct yellow peaches and minerals, which originate from the volcanic soil. A fresh, mouth-filling wine that pairs perfectly with risotto and light fish dishes.
Taurasi DOCG has played a key role in Campania's wines for years. This type of wine received its first classification in 1970, putting Taurasi on the international map. Vesevo also has a Taurasi. Although Vesevo originally specialized in wines from around Vesuvius, just south of Naples and along the coast, the Taurasi DOCG is located around the town of the same name, which is located more inland. Vesevo Taurasi Rosso proves that it can do more than just produce fresh, invigorating wines. Taurasi is a powerhouse you won't get tired of.

A leading role for the Aglianico

The Vesevo Taurasi Rosso is a wine made from the Aglianico grape, a distinctive variety that thrives not only in the area around Vesuvius, but also inland. The Aglianico grape adapts to the terroir, absorbing its characteristics and translating them into the wine. Unique. Vesevo's vineyards are situated in the most beautiful locations Taurasi has to offer. Perfect soil, a good sunny position, and on a slope, sheltered from the wind. The perfect microclimate prevails here. That's why Vesevo Taurasi Rosso has so many fans. Donnachiara Greco di Tufo is refined and elegant. A wine that perfectly captures the quality of Campania. Ideal for serving with fish dishes or a generous platter of seafood.

An Italian wine from Donnachiara

This white wine is produced by the relatively young Donnachiaria winery. Founded by Chiara Pettitto, she represents the fifth generation of the family, who previously sold their grapes to other wineries. When Chiara inherited the vineyards in 2005, she started her own winery: Donnachiara. The vineyards were redeveloped, and a new winery was built. Its sustainability is unique. Donnachiaria is the only agricultural company listed on Italy's renowned list of ecological farms.

The winery is located in perhaps Italy's most unknown wine region, Campania, in the south of this diverse country. However, Campania is developing into a significant wine region, thanks in part to wineries like Donnachiara. The indigenous grape varieties Aglianico, Falanghina, and Greco are particularly well-known. The latter, Greco, is also the basis for this Donnachiara Greco di Tufo wine.

Impressions of Donnachiara Greco di Tufo

The grapes are grown in the Greco di Tufo appellation, perhaps the most famous in all of Campania. The Donnachiara variety is magical and almost perfect. This is due to the refined production process of this white wine. After harvest, the Greco grapes are gently pressed in stainless steel to emphasize the freshness. The result is a perfect wine, one we've become huge fans of.

Donnachiara Greco di Tufo offers a rich bouquet. With every sip, you're confronted with new aromas. You'll recognize soft pears, firm apricots, and tropical pineapple. The invigorating citrus flavor is clearly present. Donnachiara Greco di Tufo is the perfect combination of refreshing fruit and rich minerals. The best Campania has to offer.
A top-notch wine from Campania. Exceptionally well-priced for what you get. Exuberant aroma and flavor. Not everyone's cup of tea. But a delightful glass of wine to relax with; wonderfully relaxed, enjoying the quality that Donnachiara winery offers.

An Aglianico wine from Donnachiara

Our vinologists at PerfectWine are always searching for new gems, new discoveries for wine lovers to savor. We travel throughout Europe to achieve this. Discovering the Donnachiara winery brought us to our favorite wine country: Italy. A diverse country where, without exception, wine is produced in every province. This is also the case in the south, in the Campania region. Best known for the historic ruins of Pompeii and the bustling city of Naples, true wine lovers know Campania as a wine region par excellence, with many undiscovered gems that are well worth exploring.

How about Donnachiara Irpinia Aglianico, a flagship winery from Donnachiara? Founded by Chiara Pettitto, women have always played a decisive role. It's remarkably progressive in the sometimes conservative south. Donnachiara is also strongly committed to the environment, with sustainability a top priority. The winery runs on solar energy, and all water is recycled. So you can enjoy the beauty of Campania that Donnachiara has to offer with peace of mind.

What does Donnachiara Irpinia Aglianico taste like?

The Donnachiara vineyards are located in the warm Campania region. Daytime temperatures can be quite high here. However, thanks to the proximity of the Tyrrhenian Sea, a cool sea breeze blows through the vineyards at night. This benefits the Aglianico grape, a local favorite, to the fullest. The grapes develop rich aromas and become deliciously juicy. After harvest, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel. Afterward, the Donnachiara Irpinia Aglianico juice is briefly aged in barriques for three months. This may not seem long, but it emphasizes the freshness. You can clearly taste and smell this. Think berries, fresh herbs, and firm leather. But swirl Donnachiara Irpinia Aglianico in your glass and let yourself be captivated by fresh strawberries and plums. The slightly creamy character is a delight for the palate.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/donnachiara-irpinia-aglianico_12773.webp?v=1770370845
donnachiara-taurasi
Donnachiara Taurasi
The crown jewel of the Donnachiara winery. Considered by connoisseurs to be one of the finest wines from the southern half of Italy. Complex and incredibly delicious. Vinologists, sommeliers, and wine journalists are falling over themselves for superlatives. A wine that deserves to be at the top of the podium.

One of the best wines from Italy

Donnachiara Winery has surprised us again. What a delicious glass of wine this is! We expected nothing less from Donnachiara Winery, which has built a tremendous reputation in a relatively short time. Grapes have been grown at the winery's site for five generations. And women have always played a key role in this winemaking process. It's no wonder that Donnachiara's founder was a woman. A woman with a clear vision: to produce the finest wines of Campania.

And that's quite tricky. Campania doesn't enjoy the same popularity as other well-known Italian wine regions, such as Veneto, Piedmont, or Tuscany. However, the region does have several DOCG wines within its borders, including Taurasi. Taurasi is the premium wine made from the Aglianico grape. Due to its complexity and refinement, it is also known among wine connoisseurs as the Barolo of the South.

Impressions of Donnachiara Taurasi

For years, Donnachiara Taurasi has been considered one of the finest wines from southern Italy. We are therefore quite proud to have acquired several bottles of this exclusive wine. It is certainly exclusive, as the process of producing this Taurasi is both expensive and time-consuming. The Aglianico grapes are all hand-harvested. After pressing and fermentation, the wine is matured impressively, first in oak barrels and then for at least another 12 months in the bottle. Only then are the bottles of Donnachiara Taurasi allowed to leave the cellar.

Your senses will be in overdrive when drinking this Donnachiara Taurasi. Several refined aromas present themselves: fresh blackberries and slightly tart cherries. But wait, take another sip! I taste leather and tobacco, but also a touch of soft blackberries. A touch of oak brings a smile to your face. Donnachiara Taurasi is a multi-layered wine that you can savor again and again.
