European influences in Colchagua Valley

It all began at the end of the sixteenth century. The Spanish introduced the first grapevines to Chile. This was all thanks to the ideal climate. The Spanish quickly realized this, and soon many grape varieties were brought from Europe to places like the Colchagua Valley. But it wasn't just the Spanish; in the 1880s, the Americans and the French also followed. And in the nineteenth century, the foundation was laid. Chile proved to be the only country to escape the phylloxera epidemic. Consequently, many winemakers settled there, and exports began to boom.

Colchagua Valley and its climate

Sun-drenched estates, little rain, and cool nights. It could hardly be better for many grape varieties. The climate in this valley is perfect, largely due to the Pacific Ocean, which creates a significant difference in daytime and nighttime temperatures. This also gives mold virtually no chance. The terroir is also unique, with soils of clay, limestone, sand, and loam. Many different grape varieties are planted on this soil. Although Merlot is primarily grown, we also find Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, and Syrah. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are somewhat more powerful here than the subtle Carmenere. In the west, there is room for the white grapes Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Wineries in Colchagua Valley

We offer a wide range of wines from the Colchagua Valley. Take Montgras wines, for example. This winery is relatively young, but incredibly innovative and dynamic. Quality is paramount, and they know how to express various grape varieties in their unique way. We also have wines from the popular Santa Helena winery. The Santa Helena Gran Reserva Carmenere is a beautiful wine that truly honors the Carmenere grape. A full-bodied flavor with delightful aromas. The wines from the Colchagua Valley are diverse and showcase many different facets of this region. Something for everyone, and of unparalleled quality.
