Mapu's story doesn't begin in Chile, where the wines originate. Its origins lie in Bordeaux, specifically in Pauillac, with the founding of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild winery. This winery is arguably considered the most famous and finest in the world. Baron Philippe de Rothschild's wines top many gastronomic wine lists. But how did this leading winemaker end up in the vast expanse of Chile in South America?
The Mapu wines from Chile
In the late 1970s, Philippe de Rothschild began to recognize Chile's potential as a wine country. This isn't surprising. All the factors for perfect wines seem to be present in the world's most elongated country. The climate, for example, is warm but not too hot. The oceanic influence also ensures a refreshing grape. On the other hand, the vineyards are protected by the mighty Andes. The choice was therefore quickly made, and Baron Philippe de Rothschild set out overseas.

The winery has acquired numerous vineyards in Chile. However, Mapu's vineyards are perhaps the most beautiful. They are located in the illustrious Maule Valley wine region, considered one of the best in all of Chile. The terroir was carefully considered when planting the vineyards. The right grapes were carefully selected for the best terroir. For example, Chardonnay is mainly found in the west, towards the ocean. However, the red varieties are planted closer to the Andes.

Unique to Mapu's wines is their affordable price combined with their accessible character. They all embody perfection. Furthermore, they only make wines from a single grape variety, to highlight the qualities of each grape. A Mapu Sauvignon Blanc exudes freshness, while the red fruit of a Mapu Merlot practically leaps from the glass. A standout is the local hero, Carmenere, which Mapu has given a special place in its Maule Valley vineyards. This grape, for example, is responsible for Mapu's best-selling wine: the Mapu Reserva Carmenere.
The best wines from Mapu
An impossible choice, if you ask our vintners. All Mapu wines stand out in terms of their flavor-to-quality ratio. Rarely have we had the pleasure of tasting such beautiful wines at such an affordable price. However, we are big fans of the Gran Reserva Mapu wines. Both the Mapu Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon and Dew Mapu Gran Reserva Chardonnay are truly the best of their kind. Powerful, creamy, and robust: exactly what every wine lover craves. They are delicious wines that clearly bear the signature of Baron Philippe de Rothschild.
