What a pure discovery this Baby Sancerre, as we call this gem. The price is unbelievable; we checked it ten times. Pure luxury, beautiful minerals, lightly aged wood, and all for less than 10 euros. It's a white wine with a classic style, a nice nod to Sancerre or Pouilly Fume wines.
Family business Bodegas Bellavista
In the heart of the Jumilla region, we find the old winery and family-owned Bodegas Bellavista. Founded in 1870, this winery is highly progressive in its winemaking techniques. They were among the first to plant the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc grape variety here. And considering the circumstances, that was not a bad choice. The sun shines brightly here, and thanks to the large elevation range, from 400 to 950 meters, the grapes enjoy plenty of warmth but also the necessary refreshment. Bodegas Bellavista has dedicated itself entirely to this wine region, and this is evident in all their wines: abundant richness, finesse, and traditional winemaking techniques.
The vines of Cambil Bay
The vines of this white Cambil Bay are already quite mature. The yield is low, but the quality is all the greater. The Bellavista family pours a lot of love into it, combining modern and traditional techniques. The Sauvignon Blanc bunches enjoy the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze at night. This ensures a slow and balanced growth process. Thanks to the rich soil structure, the bunches are also able to draw plenty of nutrients from the soil. At optimal ripeness, the grapes are carefully harvested. Afterward, the juice is lightly aged in oak, which completes its perfection. So beautiful, unprecedented!
A pure luxury after wood aging
As soon as we opened the bottle, we smelled a soft aroma of minerals, white fruit, flint, and a touch of charred wood. In the glass, it was clear with a beautiful green sheen. Nosing the glass, our eyes were wide open: pure refinement with light white fruit and a hint of citrus. A quick swirl revealed the wood and a volcanic note. The palate was wonderfully fresh with lovely soft and pleasant acidity. Minerals clung to the cheeks, accompanied by hints of gooseberry and lime. The finish was powerful, with a soft, long finish from the oak barrel. A world-class wine!
