A white wine from Rioja with fans from all over the world. El Coto Blanco is a white wine from Rioja, produced by the El Coto de Rioja winery. Founded in 1970, the winery is located in the city of Oyón (Álava). With over 700 hectares of vineyards, El Coto de Rioja is one of the largest wineries in La Rioja.
The successful winery El Coto
El Coto is a highly successful company. They have over 700 hectares of vineyards spread across seven different locations. This allows the winemakers to obtain an optimal diversity of grapes. It all began with a group of winegrowers who initially sold their harvest to larger wineries. They preferred to make their own wine, especially since their harvest was phenomenal. From this, the exceptionally large winery in the Rioja region was born. Since then, many winegrowers have joined El Coto, and the company has primarily invested in improving the vineyards and winemaking techniques.
For this wine, we travel to Rioja Alvesa and Rioja Alta, where we find vineyards filled with the Viura grape. The Viura grape grows best in cool conditions. Because of this, the vineyards are positioned somewhat higher than usual, receiving more cooling from the wind and the sharp drop in nighttime temperatures. Before processing, the grapes, once they reach the winery, are protected from oxidation by a curtain of carbon dioxide. Then, they are pressed in pneumatic presses, and the racking and cleaning of the must are carried out at low temperatures. Fermentation of this pure must takes place at a low temperature in the presence of selected yeasts.

The wine is pale yellow with a greenish hue. Tropical fruit and citrus burst from the glass. Fresh and flavorful at the same time. The palate also offers plenty of fruit, well-balanced with acidity. The soft aftertaste leaves you longing for the next sip.
