The 2022 vintage in Rioja received an excellent score of 95 points according to the Robert Parker scales. The wines are described as still youthful and rich in tannins, with excellent potential for further aging.

Yes, you read that right: a wine with a medal rain, and that applies not only to this Crianza, but all Voche Rioja wines have awards that many would envy. This Crianza, for example, has received awards from: Decanter 2018 Medalla plata, CM Bruxelles 2018 Medalla plata, Guia Peñin 2018 90 points, and Tim Atkin 2016 91 points. That's quite something. The Voche winery is managed by none other than the Azagra winery, located on a hilltop in the heart of the Rioja wine region. On the hill stands the beautiful winery, surrounded by vineyards at varying elevations. This allows each plot to have its own unique influences, allowing for the production of a progressive red wine. But that was already clear to us: Voche is not just any Rioja wine.

Wood aging for the Voche Rioja Crianza

Two vineyards are planted for this red wine. The Los Molinos vineyard, which is an impressive twenty years old, produces the Graciano grapes used in this red wine. The plot is small, only seven hectares at an altitude of 380 meters. The other grape used is, of course, the Tempranillo grape from the Jose Leon vineyard. This one is an impressive 25 years old and is very small, only five hectares in size, but those vines produce a beautiful harvest. Full, thick bunches are harvested by hand and then aged for 18 months in oak barrels. Voche Rioja uses French oak because it gives the wine just that little bit more depth. After oak aging, the wine is further aged in the bottle for six months to give it all the peace and space it needs to develop.

What does Voche Rioja Crianza taste like?

Well, we've certainly succeeded! A Crianza that captivated us just by opening it. As soon as the cork is removed, we immediately smell an aromatic bouquet with notes of ripe fruit and spices like cloves and white pepper. On the palate, it offers beautiful, vibrant tannins with hints of oak, vanilla, spice, black fruit, chocolate, and a touch of white pepper. This wine is a celebration from start to finish, and every award it has won is more than worth it.
