We had to wait a while, but Fernard Engel's dessert wine has finally arrived. A full-bodied and powerful Vendanges Tardives made from the Pinto Gris grape. Fernand Engel has been family-owned for years and has a long history of producing the finest Alsace wines. Since 1949, they have been producing the finest wines on a larger scale. Before that, the family primarily focused on smaller productions. But after the war, the winery quickly resumed re-establishing the vineyards, which still yield magnificent harvests today. The family, originally a grain grower, quickly conquered the world with their beautiful Alsace wines. Today, a truly beautiful dessert wine has been added to their collection: this powerful Vendanges Tardives.

The Pinot Gris grapes for this Vendanges Tardives come from a vineyard in Bergheim, about twenty kilometers from Colmar in Alsace. This ideal location provides the Pinot Gris grapes with a perfect environment, including beautiful soil structures rich in limestone, gravel, and clay. Approximately sixty percent of the entire harvest is affected by the harmful botrytis bacteria. The grapes are then hand-harvested, and only the finest and usable bunches are used. The resulting harvest is of unparalleled beauty.

After aging in Fernand Engel's cellars, the wine is ready to drink. The Pinot Gris Vendanges Tardives bursts into the glass, revealing a beautiful deep yellow color with golden highlights. Nose-to-nose reveals delightful hints of dried yellow fruit, interspersed with notes of quince and cane sugar. The palate offers a veritable explosion of flavors, a touch of exoticism, ripe yellow fruit, pear, and a touch of spice. The palate has a lovely, thick texture, complemented by rich notes of pineapple and licorice.
