Vintage Report

The 2023 vintage in Languedoc was rated with an excellent score of 94 points by Robert Parker. Thanks to a balanced growing season, this resulted in high-quality and fresh wines.
Fresh and vibrant are the key words for this delicious white Pierre Jean Sauvignon Blanc. Since 1914, Yvon Mau has headed the winery from which Pierre Jean wines originate. The story goes that this man was cycling through France in search of fine wines. Having found the perfect location around 1913, he became the owner of the winery in 1914, which is still known by his name, Yvon Mau. This man was always searching for gems from unknown corners. High-quality wines at a very reasonable price. We certainly still see this in Pierre Jean wines today. Pierre Jean is named after Yvon Mau's grandson, who also proudly led the winery for many years.

Sparkling white wine from Pierre Jean

For this white wine, we travel to the Côtes de Gascogne, a region where the Sauvignon Blanc grape, among others, thrives. The slightly cooler temperatures in this region give the Sauvignon Blanc grapes the wonderful acidity that characterizes the grape's origins. It's important that the ripening doesn't happen too quickly. The winemakers at Pierre Jean know better than anyone how to handle Sauvignon Blanc, and this white wine certainly proves that. After a calm and balanced growing season, the grapes have reached the right ripeness and are ready to be picked. The mechanical harvest takes place early in the morning. This hardens the grape skins and makes them more resistant to any bruising during transport. Once arrived at the winery, the grapes are gently pressed so that only the finest juice reaches the tank. After vinification, the wine is aged in the bottle for another three months for a perfect finish.

The taste of Pierre Jean Sauvignon Blanc

A perfect finish, for sure! What a delightful summery white wine! The color is pale yellow with a light green glint in the glass. The nose offers beautiful aromas of citrus, freshly mown grass, and white fruit. This translates into a crisp white wine that, despite its acidity, has a pleasantly mild undertone. Delicious nuances of pear and apple interspersed with hints of citrus. The finish is lively, youthful, and wonderfully summery. Drink this wine in summer or winter; you'll always bring sunshine into your home with this white wine from Pierre Jean.
