The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

Piper Heidsieck is a champagne with a turbulent history. The gossip columns of the 18th and 19th centuries would have raved about it: that's how captivating the story of Piper Heidsieck is. Despite all the setbacks and events, Piper Heidsieck still stands proudly on its pedestal – Piper Heidsieck is still praised for its unique champagne character.

Champagne Piper Heidsieck began in 1785, when Florens-Louis Heidsieck set out to create the finest champagne. He quickly acquired prominent fans, including Marie-Antoinette. When he died, his nephew Christian Heidsieck took over the house. However, he too was short-lived, leaving his widow grief-stricken. However, her sorrow was short-lived: Heidsieck's widow married cellar master Henri-Guillaume Piper, and the Piper Heidsieck champagne house was born.

Piper Heidsieck always surrounded herself with icons of the zeitgeist. Piper Heidsieck was Hollywood's number one champagne, and the biggest sex symbol of all time was a regular at the house: Marilyn Monroe. Rumor had it that she woke up every day with Piper Heidsieck's classic Brut Cuvée. But Piper Heidsieck champagne has much more to offer, including this Cuvée Sublime. It's the demi-sec version of Piper Heidsieck. Although this Cuvée Sublime Piper Heidsieck is a demi-sec champagne, the sweetness is somewhat subtle. This emphasizes its sultry character, but Piper Heidsieck Cuvée Sublime is definitely not a full-bodied sweet champagne.

The Piper Heidsieck Cuvée Sublime is uniquely blended. Half of the blend is reserved for the spicy Pinot Noir, which gives this champagne its distinctive character. This is complemented by 30% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. Maturation lasts over 36 months, giving the champagne ample time to develop its bouquet. You'll be pampered by fresh aromas of soft vanilla and tropical fruit. A distinct hint of roasted pineapple from the barbecue is also discernible. The finish of the Piper Heidsieck Cuvée Sublime reveals a distinct note of praline crème.
