This so-called Red Blend is a marriage of four grape varieties: Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. This proved a success, as the blend is a true craft. But before we get to that point, we first need to tell you a bit about the vineyard. The old, thick vines are planted in Lodi, where the grapes receive plenty of sunshine, allowing them to develop a high sugar content. They also receive cool winds, allowing for a slow and steady harvest. Once the grapes have reached full ripeness, they are harvested separately and transported in small crates to the 1924 winery. Once all the grapes have been harvested, the winemaker creates the ultimate blend, and the Double Black Red Wine Blend is complete. But not quite yet, as the entire wine is aged for several more months in oak, making it incredibly powerful and smooth.
Yes, then the moment arrives. We open the beautiful bottle and immediately smell a powerful aroma of black fruit, vanilla, and caramel. Wow, this really invites us to quickly grab a large glass. We pour the red wine and are met with a beautiful dark color with purple shimmer. With our nose close to the glass, this red wine enchants the senses. We noted ripe plums, dark chocolate, ripe cherries, and vanilla and cedar. The palate is very smooth, full of rich flavors of black fruit, light spices, caramel, toffee, coffee grounds, chocolate, and so on. This is truly a wine fit for a king!
