Cielo 1908 Oro di Gio Rosso is a powerful Italian red blend from the 1908 Super Premium wines collection by Cielo. This Special Edition is presented in a striking gold-colored bottle and was created as a tribute to Giovanni Cielo, the founder of the family story behind Cielo 1908. This blend of Primitivo, Negroamaro, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for 24 months in oak barrels and combines ripe Mediterranean fruit, warm spices, soft tannins, and a long finish with dark chocolate.
Oro di Gio is a Rosso d’Italia, composed of carefully selected plots in Southern Italy.
Location / Origin: Rosso d’Italia offers the freedom to bring together different Italian origins into one rich, powerful blend. For Oro di Gio, the focus is on Southern Italian warmth, ripeness, and a full, generous structure.
Selection: The grapes are sourced from plots chosen to create a true “golden blend.” This selection revolves around concentration, ripe fruit, soft tannins, and sufficient structure for prolonged oak aging.
Climate & Influences: Southern Italy gives the wine its ripe Mediterranean fruit, sultry spiciness, and full body. Primitivo and Negroamaro, in particular, provide warmth, depth, and a distinct southern character here.
The vinification process is focused on color, power, soft tannins, and a luxurious, velvety texture.
Fermentation: The wine undergoes an extended maceration at a controlled temperature. This gives Oro di Gio its intense ruby red color, full fruit concentration, and broad structure.
Aging / Oak maturation: The wine is aged for 24 months in oak barrels. This long maturation provides extra depth, warm spices, soft toast, and an elegant structure with silky tannins.
Alcohol content: At 15% alcohol, this blend has great power and volume. The ripe fruit core and polished tannins ensure that the wine remains rich and velvety on the palate.
Oro di Gio combines Southern Italian ripeness with international structure and roundness.
Primitivo – Rosso d’Italia: Primitivo gives the wine its ripe dark fruit, sultry spiciness, full body, and soft, warm attack.
Negroamaro – Rosso d’Italia: Negroamaro adds extra depth, Mediterranean spiciness, dark color, and a subtle hint of bitterness in the finish.
Merlot – Rosso d’Italia: Merlot adds roundness, suppleness, and velvety tannins to the blend.
Cabernet Sauvignon – Rosso d’Italia: Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, grip, and length, giving the wine more backbone.
