Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage for Portuguese dry wines received an excellent score of 94 points from Robert Parker. The wines from this vintage are approachable and can be enjoyed relatively young.
Unique with a capital "U." That's Terra d'Alter Alicante Bouschet. It all starts with this grape variety. Alicante Bouschet has something few other grape varieties have. It's one of the few red grapes that contains red flesh (and therefore produces red juice). Normally, red grapes have white juice, and the wine turns red because the skins ferment. But it's not just the grape that's unique about this wine. It's everything! In terms of color, aroma, and flavor, it's a high-flyer in the Portuguese wine landscape. Our advice, especially if you're looking for something different: try Terra d'Alter Alicante Bouschet. Unique and simply delicious. And for that price. A surprisingly high value for money.

8 months of wood aging for Terra d'Alter AB Alicante Bousche

The Terra d'Alter AB Alicante Bouschet is vinified using a modern method by the Terra d'Alter winery in the Alentejo wine region. This is a vast area in southern Portugal. The grapes planted are predominantly Portuguese, harvested at peak ripeness. The entire vinification process is overseen by Peter Bright, a winemaker originally from Australia who has made wine in South Africa, South America, and his native Portugal. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and then crushed. Fermentation follows in small stainless steel tanks with 20 percent whole bunches, followed by a three-day maceration. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for eight months in oak barrels.

Enjoy the complex Terra d'Alter AB Alicante Bouschet

It all starts with the aroma. But that aroma alone is enough. This is so incredibly delicious. Top-notch with a capital T. This is wonderful. You smell a lot of dark fruit. Plums, blueberries, and mulberries form a sensational flavor palette. There's also a pleasant spiciness, typical of wines from Portugal. We can hardly wait to take a sip of Terra d Alter Alicante Bouschet. The wait is more than worth it. The fruit bursts through your taste buds. Blackberries, currants, cherries. And so on. You can clearly feel the spiciness on your tongue. Take another sip and you'll discover the complexity of Terra d Alter Alfrocheiro. The flavor becomes nutty, and you taste the bitterness of chocolate on the back of your tongue. Who would have thought? A Portuguese wine made with an unknown grape variety that would surprise us so much.
