A sublime red wine from the Iberian Peninsula. Portugal is internationally renowned for its spectacular Port wines. However, don't underestimate its white and red wines. While Portugal may not be as well-known as large wine-producing countries, in terms of vineyard area, it rivals countries like Chile, Argentina, and Germany. Due to the exceptionally warm climate—daytime temperatures can easily reach 30 degrees Celsius or more during the summer months—the wines are highly concentrated and robust. The red wines, in particular, possess the temperament you expect from a Portuguese wine. That's why Dom Martinho Red has been a resounding success in our range for years.

The native grape varieties of Portugal

Portuguese viticulture is characterized by the extensive use of local grape varieties, as is the case with this Dom Martinho Red. However, the Dom Martinho winery also uses internationally renowned varieties for this red wine. For example, Cabernet Sauvignon and Aragonez play a prominent role. Aragonez may seem relatively unknown, but it is the Portuguese equivalent of the well-known Tempranillo. Furthermore, the local varieties Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira clearly leave their mark on Dom Martinho Red. A perfectly balanced blend from the winemaker at Dom Martinho.

Impressions of Dom Martinho Red

This red wine from Portugal represents pure craftsmanship. It's perfect, from the first sip to the very last drop. The grapes are all treated separately and then, after much experimentation, blended into this classic from Portuguese soil. Before bottling, the juice is aged for another 6 to 9 months in stainless steel tanks. It takes time, but it's worth it. With aromas of red berries, cherries, strawberries, and jam, a true explosion of flavors unfolds on your taste buds. The balance of fruit and acidity is almost legendary.
