What a full-bodied wine! This Tedeschi Maternigo has earned the prestigious distinction of Superiore from the Valpolicella wine region! A truly exceptional wine with a remarkable terroir! The Tedeschi family has worked hard to gain recognition for their Valpolicella wines, and they have been very successful. The Maternigo comes from a single estate, the Impervio vineyard at an altitude of 400 meters. The result is an exceptionally powerful red wine, both classic and grand.

Production of Maternigo Valpolicella by the Tedeschi winery

In the Tenuta Martenigo vineyards, the nature of the soil has led to some of the locations emerging as true crus. The grapes for this Valpolicella Superiore are grown in the Impervio vineyard, which takes its name from the steep slope of the morainic hill. The soils consist of white and yellow marl limestone. Strict organic farming practices apply here, as in all Tenuta Maternigo vineyards. For Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore, the grape varieties Corvina (40 percent), Corvinone, and Rondinella are each vinified to a combined 30 percent. The grapes are overripe in mid-October, then harvested, destemmed, and pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place for twenty days at a controlled temperature, after which the wine is aged for fourteen months in Slavonian oak barrels. After bottling, it is aged for another six months in bottle. The Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore is a wine with very good ageing potential.

What does Tedeschi Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore taste like?

The Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore DOC from the Tedeschi winery is a cru from Tenuta Maternigo. In the glass, it is an intense ruby red, clear, and translucent. The bouquet of this award-winning wine is very fruity. Aromas of red currant, sour cherry, cherry, and plum, which give the wine freshness, blend with mineral, vinous, and spicy notes, with hints of vanilla. The Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore exhibits a rich, fresh, and balanced structure, concentrated and powerful tannins combined with lively acidity and alcohol content. The aromas reappear on the very long finish. A long-lasting, fresh, and very elegant red wine from Veneto.
