Vintage Report
The 2022 vintage in the Southern Rhône was rated 84-86 points by Robert Parker. The wines from this year are early-drinking and approachable.
This red wine comes from the Gigondas appellation, a beautiful red wine from Château de la Gardine. The vineyard is located exclusively in the town of the same name, in the heart of the Vaucluse, on the edge of the famous Dentelles de Montmirail. The Gigondas wine region was developed by the Romans, who chose this hillside terroir to produce high-quality, complex, and powerful wines. Well, that's still the practice today, thanks to the Brunel family, who still own the finest vineyards in the Gigondas region. This makes this wine very popular and a sell-out every year!
Gardine wines in a special style
Gaston Brunel, a famous merchant, purchased Château de la Gardine in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1945. His sons run the estate today, caring for their 52 hectares of vineyards with the same vision as their father. All the quality wines for which the family is so renowned are presented in exceptionally elegant bottles. This Gardine bottle came about spontaneously. Gaston Brunel wanted to expand his cellar for the first time, and while digging in the ground, he discovered a very old, mouth-blown bottle. Its shape inspired him to bottle all his wines in a similar bottle. He had them made in Italy, and since 1964, all his wines have been bottled in this unique Gardine bottle.A powerful and meaty Gigondas
The vineyards are situated in a very old area, and the vines are deeply dug into the ground, allowing them to fully appreciate the beautiful surroundings. This blend consists of 80 percent Syrah and 15 percent Mourvedre. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and pressed, after which fermentation takes place in oak barrels. Finally, the wine is aged for 8 to 10 months in oak barrels. According to winemaker Brunel, the wine needs rest to develop. Powerful and fleshy, that's what this red wine is all about; this Gigondas reveals intense aromas of red fruit with pepper and licorice. With remarkable structure and balance, it leaves a good length on the palate.Product details
