The Domaine Garric Minervois 2023 is a southern red wine for hearty dishes and moments when you crave more power and depth in your glass. The wine beautifully reflects the landscape it comes from, as the name Garric refers to garrigue, the typical scrubland of Southern France, while Domaine Pujol considers its AOP Minervois as its local terroir wine. This immediately makes its origin substantively relevant. What is Minervois? This is an appellation in the Languedoc, named after the ancient town of Minerve.
Vineyards and region
This wine is clearly rooted in a rugged, Mediterranean part of the Languedoc.
- Location / Origin: Domaine Pujol is located in Saint Frichoux in the Aude, at the foot of the Montagne Noire. From this amphitheatre-like landscape, the estate overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, while Domaine Garric represents the local AOP Minervois within the range.
- Climate & Influences: The vineyards benefit from a distinct Mediterranean sun, which is well-suited for a Minervois with more colour and power.
- Landscape: The parcels are scattered among garrigue, on hill slopes with pine trees and green oaks. Rosemary and thyme are naturally present and give this origin a unique southern signature.
- Soil: In Saint Frichoux, the estate refers to soils that still bear the memory of an ancient salty sea. This underscores how strongly this place is connected to its geological origin.
Grape composition
This Minervois is composed of 2 classic southern grape varieties, without unnecessary complexity in the blend.
- Syrah – Minervois: Syrah is part of the blend that gives this wine its deep red colour and powerful finish.
- Grenache – Minervois: Grenache, together with Syrah, forms the basis of the wine and supports the full, southern style of this cuvée.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Deep red in the glass, with a strong southern allure. On the palate, this Minervois has a powerful structure and a clear, long finish that stands up well to spicy dishes. The overall impression is convincing and full of character, without losing its suppleness.
- Serving temperature: 16–18 °C works best here, as this range beautifully brings out the wine's structure and power.
- Dishes: Meat dishes with a spicy sauce and a piece of aged Dutch cheese pair well here, as this wine has enough power for savoury, spicy flavours.
