Vintage Report

The 2016 vintage in Languedoc was rated 93 points by Robert Parker, indicating exceptionally high quality. The wines are considered somewhat tannic and youthful, giving them great potential to develop further and slowly with bottle aging.
The Domaine Haut Gléon Vallée du Paradis rouge is a beautiful blend of Grenache Noir, Carignan, and Cabernet Franc. All Gléon wines are presented in a unique bottle. It was discovered in the château's attic and, due to its unique shape, is still used today.

A wide range of Haut Gleon wines

Château Haut Gléon, located in Languedoc-Roussillon, is a beautiful estate with a castle converted into a winery. Haut Gléon lies on the eastern slopes of the Corbières, a privileged corner of Languedoc-Roussillon. It is full of vines, with fertile soil and a unique microclimate. This valley is known as the Vallée de Paradis (Paradise Valley). Most of the vines face north, and the soil is gravelly and chalky. The 12th-century château encompasses 260 hectares in total and has been owned by Foncalieu since 2012. The vineyards offer a wide range of varietals (Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Merlot, Syrah, Carignan, Grenache Noir, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir). Château Haut-Gléon produces primarily red wines (80 percent), but also whites and rosés (20 percent). The terroir in Haut-Gléon consists of diverse soils (Quaternary-period terraces, clay-limestone rubble, and gravel on clay decalcified by limestone), with varying exposures. This winery has a specific goal in mind when making wine. The identity of the Haut Gléon terroir is central to the blending process. The cellar meets the highest standards for insulation and climate control. This red wine is traditionally vinified in stainless steel vats. Long maceration (four weeks) with short daily pump-overs ensures smooth extraction. Finally, the wine is aged for six months in stainless steel vats.

A smooth and soft red wine from Haut Gléon

The color of this wine is immediately striking upon pouring. A beautiful deep purple fills the glass. The aroma is multifaceted, with notes of blackcurrant and blackberry, interspersed with a subtle spiciness. On the palate, this Haut Gléon red wine is smooth and soft with delicate hints of blackberry, cherry, and currant. The slightly spicy finish completes the wine. Delicious with light meat dishes or a cheese board.
