Vintage Report

Het oogstjaar 2024 voor de Zuidelijke Rhône is nog te recent om een definitieve beoordeling te geven. De kwaliteit van de wijnen zal pas na verdere rijping duidelijk worden.
What a distinctive wine this Lirac from the Ogier Caves des Papes winery. Ogier has been producing exquisite wines from the Rhône Valley for over 150 years. Ogier considers winemaking a true art, requiring meticulous attention to detail. And you can certainly taste that in the French wines from this estate.

A new style of Ogier wines

The winery's origins date back to 1859. However, it wasn't until 1948 that the Rhône Valley began cultivating wine in various vineyards. The Ogier cellars date back to the twentieth century and are located in the world-famous wine village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. They are undoubtedly the oldest cellars in the southern Rhône Valley. The winery's magnificent buildings are built in the Roman style. To source the grapes for this Lirac, the winery collaborates with local winegrowers. Together, they have introduced a new style to Ogier wines. The grapes come from vineyards in Lirac, in the Gard department. The soil consists of gravel, clay, and sand. Vines in the Lirac appellation have been cultivated for 2,000 years. The grapes are harvested by hand and consist of a blend of 60 percent Grenache, 25 percent Syrah, and 15 percent Mourvedre. The grapes are vinified traditionally, undergoing a long maceration and finally aging in oak barrels. This gives the wine great power and suppleness.

Enjoy a robust classic red wine

The Lirac is a deep red in the glass with aromas of red fruit, leather, spices, and subtle vanilla. Its robust and classic flavor boasts a lovely minerality with spice and soft tannins. The long, elegant finish has lovely vanilla notes thanks to its oak aging. On the back of the palate, we detected hints of plum, vanilla, and spices. This wine pairs perfectly with game dishes, red meat, and cheeses.
