Vintage Report

The 2020 vintage for dry wines from Portugal has been excellently rated with a score of 92 points. The wines from this year have a youthful character and need time to fully mature.
The premium white wine from the Portuguese winery Esporão. This wine has also been declared one of the best white wines from Portugal. It's a unique wine with a subtle nod to Bordeaux. Made with 100% Semillon grapes from vines nearly 20 years old.

The classic face of Alentejo wines

This Private Selection wine was first produced in 2001. The reason for this was to showcase the classic character of Alentejo white wines. To achieve this, the winemaker decided to base the wine on the Semillon grape and use new French oak barrels for fermentation and aging. Over the years, the rich and complex style of this wine has been enhanced, partly due to the age of the vineyard and the careful selection of the barrels. The vines are planted on well-drained clay soils, ideal for balanced yields and the development of fresh, aromatic grapes. The alternation of warm days and cool nights also favors the grapes' ripening process. The Semillon grapes are harvested by hand during the cool morning hours and pressed at low pressure. This results in a rich must. A short period of cold settling follows to increase the must's solids content. Fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels at a fixed temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. Barrel aging lasts up to nine months to ensure optimal integration of the wine and oak. After bottling, the wine is aged for an additional six months in the bottle.

What does the Esporão Private Selection white taste like?

The Private Selection is crystal clear, sparkling, and straw yellow in color. The aroma reveals attractive aromatic fruits: citrus, peaches, and tropical fruit. Combined with the spice and toast of the oak. Elegant, well-balanced, and with a long, lingering finish. A superb wine! Wonderful with delicious chicken and turkey dishes.
