Château du Rouet Le Côtes Côtes de Provence, France
Château du Rouet Le Côtes is an organic Provence rosé for sunny lunches, for sharing at the table, and for those moments when you're looking for something more than just light fruit. The wine combines citrus and red berries with a round, almost creamy attack, making it softer and fuller than many crisp terrace rosés. This style perfectly matches its appellation. What is AOC Côtes de Provence? It is the most important appellation for rosé from Provence, officially recognized in 1977.
Vineyards and Region
The origin of this rosé lies in a warm Provençal landscape where altitude, soil, and shelter collectively have a significant influence on its style.
- Location / Origin: The grapes come from Roquebrune-sur-Argens, from a 9-hectare plot within the AOC Côtes de Provence. Château du Rouet is located in the heart of Provence, at the foot of the Colle de Rouët and not far from Fréjus.
- Altitude: The Colle de Rouët reaches an altitude of 560 m. This location provides the vineyards with extra cooling, which helps to preserve freshness in the wine.
- Soil: The soils consist of volcanic rock and granite. This is well-suited for a rosé with tension, freshness, and a clear, clean profile.
- Climate & Influences: The vineyards are sheltered from the northern winds by the red rocks of the Estérel massif. This natural protection helps the grapes ripen evenly in a distinct Mediterranean setting.
- Vineyard & Harvest: The wine is organically grown, and the yield is 30 hl/ha. This low yield supports extra concentration and greater definition in the fruit.
Vinification and Ageing
The cellar approach here focuses on a pale colour, pure fruit, and a fresh, refined style.
- Fermentation: After pressing, fermentation takes place at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. This helps to preserve the clarity of citrus, red fruit, and freshness.
- Ageing: The skins are removed shortly after the start of vinification to retain the wine's light colour. This keeps the style delicate in hue and smooth in structure.
- Alcohol Percentage: At 13.5% alcohol, this rosé has enough body to support its round mouthfeel, without losing its fresh Provençal character.
Grape Composition
The blend is classically Provençal in its construction, giving this rosé its soft, fruity, and gastronomic profile.
- 60% Grenache – Côtes de Provence: Grenache gives the wine its breadth, round fruitiness, and soft attack.
- 30% Cinsault – Côtes de Provence: Cinsault brings refinement and juiciness, which perfectly suits the light colour and elegant style.
- 10% Syrah – Côtes de Provence: Syrah adds a little extra structure and a subtle spicy undertone to the blend.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
Light salmon pink in the glass, with an aroma of citrus and red berries. On the palate, it is full and round, with plenty of fruit, a soft creaminess, and a fresh, slightly bitter finish that keeps it beautifully balanced. The aftertaste remains juicy and invitingly drinkable.
- Serving Temperature: 8–10 °C works best here, as this range keeps the fruit vibrant while allowing space for the round texture.
- Dishes: Salads, fish, and grilled vegetable dishes pair very naturally with this wine, as it brings both freshness and some extra body.
