The 2022 vintage for North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon in California received a score of 88-90 from Robert Parker. This indicates above-average to excellent quality, although results may be somewhat inconsistent.

Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon is Orin Swift's crown jewel, and that's no lie. Made exclusively from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from the finest vineyards in Napa Valley, Mercury Head seduces with a bold wine that's worth every penny of its legendary history. The old vineyards produce beautiful bunches, not a large yield, but a legendary one nonetheless. Because the grapes are deeply rooted in the soil, they absorb a rich, full flavor. The climate also contributes to this top-notch wine; with plenty of sunshine and cool nights, the growing season is long and uneventful.

Orin Swift wines in a special style

Under the leadership of Dave Phinney, Orin Swift produces exceptional wines of exceptional quality. All wines feature captivating labels that will repeatedly tempt you to discover what lurks beneath the cork. Each wine is full-bodied and intense, yet with the right structure to hold everything together. Dave isn't afraid to combine different varietals and even appellations to create a unique wine. This means that each wine is rigorously inspected before bottling and marketing.

Wood aging for the Mercury Head Cabernet

After being hand-harvested, this red wine is aged for an impressive 18 months in oak barrels in Orin Swift's cellars. About half of the barrels are new and unused, giving it its full character. The aroma reveals notes of cassis, blueberries, and black cherry, complemented by hints of lavender, plum, and sandalwood. The palate is very powerful with fine, soft tannins, abundant black fruit, dark toffee, and espresso bean, as well as spices and cedar. The back of the palate reveals even more flavors of soft rhubarb and licorice. What a superb wine, never to be forgotten.
