Vintage Report
Het is nog te vroeg voor een definitief oogstrapport voor de jaargang 2024 in Baden, aangezien de wijnen nog in ontwikkeling zijn. Over het algemeen belooft het een veelbelovende jaargang te worden voor aromatische witte wijnen.
The Gewürtraminer grape always remains a bit of a mystery. Yet, we truly enjoy wines made with it. A good Gewürtraminer is even very versatile. And by "good," we naturally mean this Köbelin Gewürtraminer. In 1957, Albert Köbelin took over the magnificent winery from his father. Albert had a son who was already a frequent visitor to the vineyards. By the age of 16, Arndt Köbelin had already worked for several renowned wineries worldwide and, together with his wife, took over the helm of the family business in 2005. Today, the winery has grown into a magnificent winery known worldwide for its pure wines. The building that houses the winery was recently built. During this construction, great attention was paid to both nature and the essence of winemaking. Many components of winemaking are incorporated into the building. Think glass, oak, and stainless steel. From the winery, there's a 360-degree view overlooking the vineyards and the Black Forest, one of Germany's most beautiful nature reserves.
Classic white wine with a slightly sweet taste
The old vineyards where the Gewürztraminer vines are planted are situated in a very sunny location at an altitude of over 300 meters. These vineyards are located near the beautiful city of Freiburg and overlook the world-famous Black Forest. This region boasts the warmest climate in Germany, which certainly benefits the Gewürztraminer. This grape takes longer to ripen than other white grapes. Because this white wine has a natural sweetness, it's important that this undertone can develop properly. Therefore, it requires plenty of sunshine and a cooling breeze at night. Once Arndt Köbelin has determined that the grapes are perfectly ripe, the manual harvest begins very early in the morning. This allows for a strict selection of the fruit used for the pressing. No wood is used for the aging of this white wine. The entire vinification and aging process takes place in stainless steel vats. The taste of Köbelin's Gewürztraminer
The end result is phenomenal, by the way. One of our favorite Gewürztraminer wines. We carefully open the bottle, and some lovely aromas already emanate from it. Once the wine is in the glass, we see a beautiful golden yellow color. After swirling the glass, we smell delicious aromas of ripe yellow and tropical fruit, lychee, honey, and a hint of floral. This translates into a slightly sweet white wine with a beautiful, classic undertone. With delightful flavor nuances of pineapple, mango, peach, and a touch of honey. A truly delightful glass of white wine! Delicious!Product details
