When we first tasted this wine, we couldn't believe our eyes, for this price? Such a pure wine! But then we discovered that Bitacora is part of Cuatro Rayas. And they're no strangers to the Spanish wine world, having been crafting the finest wines since 1935. The winery does, however, share a deep love for the Rueda region and the Verdejo grape. Over the years, Cuatro Rayas has invested heavily in Bitacora's wines, including a renovated winery equipped with state-of-the-art technology. This ensures Bitacora's future, allowing it to continue producing the finest wines from the Rueda region.

The unique Verdejo vineyard of Bitacora

The vineyards, filled with Verdejo grapes, are situated at a considerable altitude of 800 meters above sea level. This allows the Verdejo grapes to enjoy abundant sunlight, coupled with tremendous coolness. This coolness comes from the wind that blows through the old vineyard virtually every day. The sharp drop in nighttime temperatures also gives the Bitacora winemaker exactly what he's looking for. The result is a ripe and fresh harvest. The rich soil structure, where grapes have been grown for decades, contains plenty of pebbles and minerals, which we taste in this white wine. When the harvest is ripe, it is brought in at night to protect the grapes during transport to Bitacora. This only happens when the wind is perfectly aligned for harvest. The label is therefore marked with a compass rose.

This white wine Bitacora is deliciously fresh

Upon opening the bottle, we're immediately treated to aromas of white fruit like green apple and pear, along with hints of fresh mint leaves and gooseberry. Pouring reveals a typical Verdejo color: a bright, light yellow. The green shimmer draws our senses in, and we quickly reach for the glass. Nosing the glass, we detect hints of passion fruit, lime peel, gooseberries, and a touch of green bell pepper. The aroma is delightfully vibrant, and the palate is perfectly fresh. Beautiful white fruit flavors interspersed with citrus notes. On the back of the tongue, we tasted hints of apple and citrus, with a finish best described as delicate.
