With this organic Verdejo, the beautiful Spanish winery De Haan Altes aims to demonstrate the possibilities of the La Mancha wine region. The name El Convertido, which literally means "the converter," is a reflection of the transformation in the wine region. La Mancha was initially seen as a cheap region where quality wasn't a priority. That's changed today, and they even make organic wines there, just like this white Verdejo. And that's only possible in the finest vineyards, because the climate, soil, and vine health must be perfect for an organic wine.

The old Verdejo vineyard of El Convertido

The De Haan Altes family winery has a reputation to uphold and, a few years ago, acquired one of the finest Verdejo vineyards. These vineyards are situated at an altitude of seven hundred and one meters above sea level. This proved to be a success for the Verdejo grapes. Abundant sunshine and the enormous coolness of the wind and nighttime temperatures allow for the production of a fully organic white wine. The rich soil structure, with its abundance of lime, clay, and sand, results in a rich harvest.

The smell and taste of the El Convertido Verdejo

Yes, let the party begin! Get those balloons ready because this is a top-notch wine for this price. It all starts the moment we open the bottle, as we smell notes of gooseberry, apple, and other fresh white fruit. Pouring this white El Convertido Verdejo reveals a bright color with green highlights. Nosing the glass, we noted nuances of citrus fruit, green apple, gooseberry, and fresh mint leaves. The taste is very refreshing and slightly tingling on the tongue. Ripe flavors of white and citrus fruit follow one another evenly. The finish is long with lovely notes of grapefruit and lemongrass.
