This Verdejo is a truly distinctive Spanish white wine. The grapes come from the renowned Spanish wine region of Rioja. Wines made with Verdejo grapes are excellent alternatives to Gruner Veltliner or Sauvignon Blanc, for example. This Verdejo is young, fresh, fruity, and has a lovely acidity. El Coto de Rioja was founded in 1970. Throughout its nearly 50-year history, El Coto has strived to create one of the most recognized wine brands in Spain and the rest of the world. El Coto is the largest vineyard owner in the DOC Rioja, with four different estates (and eight individual properties) spanning its three subregions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja, and Rioja Alavesa. Each estate is dedicated to producing the best Rioja has to offer. It began with a group of winemakers who shared a single goal: to produce the finest Rioja wines at a premium price. With this in mind, they set out to create a highly successful winery. The El Coto Verdejo comes from the Spanish wine region of Rioja. The Verdejo grapes thrive in the region's highest vineyard: Finca Carbonera, situated at an altitude of 780 meters above sea level. After careful harvesting, cold maceration and pressing take place in the winery. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of 16 degrees Celsius to extract the varietal's full aromatic potential. Before finally being released, the wine is aged for a period in stainless steel tanks.
