Ossian Quintaluna Verdejo Castilla y León

Ossian Quintaluna is the purest, most energetic introduction to Verdejo from northern Segovia, made as a village wine around the village of Nieva, where sandy soils and old vines set the tone. As a refreshing counterpoint to the powerful Ossian , Quintaluna was created to showcase the vibrant side of this region, with plenty of tension yet a smooth structure. What makes Quintaluna such a compelling introduction to Ossian? The answer is that you immediately taste how old Verdejo vines, organic vineyards, and precision in the cellar combine to create a wine bursting with identity yet remaining instantly accessible. At Perfectewijn, you'll find Quintaluna precisely for this combination of depth and drinking pleasure.

Vineyards and region

The grapes for Quintaluna come from Spain, from Castile and Leon" href="https://perfectewijn.nl/collections/regio-castilla-y-leon">Castilla y León , from vineyards around Nieva in the province of Segovia. It's a mosaic of plots in and around the village, with sandy soils that almost resemble beaches and are partially covered with pine forests. Many of the vines are very old and still growing on their own roots, as the sandy soils once warded off phylloxera. The extreme continental climate, with cold winters, hot summers, and large temperature differences between day and night, produces slow-ripening grapes with plenty of tension and fresh acidity. The vineyards are farmed organically, with special attention to soil biology and the preservation of these historic Verdejo vines.

Vinification and maturation

The Quintaluna harvest is entirely hand-picked, with the grapes picked plot by plot and transported to the cellar in small crates. There, a strict selection is made on a sorting table and a gentle pressing is performed, ensuring only the purest juice is used. The must is fermented in small stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, preserving the vineyard's distinctive character and eliminating the influence of selected yeast profiles. The wine then matures for approximately nine months on its lees in the same stainless steel tanks, developing additional creaminess, texture, and complexity without losing its freshness. Only then is Quintaluna clarified and bottled, with a further period of bottle aging before release.

Grape composition

Verdejo – organic vineyards around Nieva in Segovia
Quintaluna is 100% Verdejo , with a significant proportion of old to very old vines (~100 years old), much of which is pre-phylloxera. These old vines produce a small but highly concentrated fruit, with plenty of minerality and depth, while younger vines add extra freshness and aromatic tension.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

Quintaluna presents itself in the glass as a light straw yellow with bright green reflections. The nose reveals refined aromas of white flowers, stone fruits like peach and apricot, citrus fruits like lemon and mandarin, and vibrant green notes reminiscent of fennel and fresh herbs. On the palate, the wine is dry, fresh, and precise, with a juicy core of ripe fruit, a subtle almondy edge, and a distinct salty minerality from the sandy soils. The structure is slender yet smooth thanks to the lees aging, with fine acidity that ensures a long, clean finish. Serve Quintaluna preferably at around 8–10°C in a generous white wine glass and pair it with shellfish, oysters, ceviche, sushi, or light dishes with vegetables and herbs; this Verdejo also pairs beautifully with fresh salads and refined tapas.
