The 2023 vintage in Castilla y León is rated with an excellent score of 91 points. The wines from this year show a youthful and vibrant character with a good structure for further aging.

Verdejo is the pride of Spanish winemakers. This indigenous grape has become a major force in popularity since its widespread planting in the 1970s. This slightly sunny, aromatic white wine has proven to be a huge success for Spanish winemaking. It was first planted in Rueda in the 1970s by Marqués de Riscal. Thanks to their efforts, the grape has become a welcome guest. Today, you'll find numerous vineyards growing Verdejo grapes outside Rueda, including in Jumilla, where the Verdejo grapes thrive in the vineyards of Bodegas Alceño.

Bodegas Alceño's pioneering spirit is clearly demonstrated by this Sierra de Enmedio Verdejo. This winery was among the first to plant this beloved grape variety in Jumilla. A significant risk. However, Bodegas Alceño made the right choice, and this Sierra de Enmedio Verdejo has proven to be incredibly popular with the wine-drinking public. Despite Jumilla's hot climate, Verdejo thrives here. This is largely thanks to the Mediterranean Sea. Because the vineyards are relatively close to the coast, a pleasant breeze blows through them, especially at night.
