Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage in Rioja received an excellent rating of 95 points. The wines from this year are currently still youthful and tannic, or are developing slowly.

In the 1970s, the popularity of Rioja wines grew significantly in the Netherlands. Rioja wines had a delicious vanilla aroma thanks to their aging in American oak barrels. This quickly caught on in our small country. The vanilla character is also dominant in this wine from Telmo Rodriguez.

Months of wood aging

Telmo Rodriguez's life was dominated by wine from an early age. He spent his childhood at his father's winery and earned his oenology degree early on in Bordeaux. In 1994, he embarked on a unique project, which would later be considered perhaps the most ambitious in Spanish winemaking history. He began pressing the finest wines possible in various Spanish wine regions. He collaborates with numerous oenologists in different areas to enhance local wines. The distinctive character of each region is central. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of approximately 500 to 700 meters. There are two types of soil: some consist of sandstone plateaus that are stony and chalky in texture. The others are found on gently sloping, chalky, marlstone slopes with a very fine texture. The blend, consisting of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Garnache, comes from various vineyards in the Rioja region. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, with a strict selection taking place during the harvest. In the winery, the grapes are further sorted and destemmed. This is followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine is aged in concrete tanks for approximately 6 to 7 months.

Enjoy a full and soft red wine

With a youthful red color, the LZ appears in the glass. A sultry and soft aroma immediately unfolds, with black fruit dominating and spicy notes of vanilla taking center stage. On the palate, this red wine is full and smooth, with fruity notes clearly emerging.
