William Deutz was one of the founders of the famous Deutz Champagne house. As early as 1838, William Deutz recognized the potential of the area around the village of Ay, a small village just northeast of the Champagne capital, Epernay. Home to big names like Castellane and Moet & Chandon, the vineyards surrounding Ay were purchased, and from that moment on, Deutz Champagnes dominated the world. To this day, the vast majority of the grapes come from the Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards in Champagne.
