In the warm, gravelly dolomite limestone vineyards around Margreid, the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties produce well-structured wines. This grape variety has been part of the Italian Lagerder family's winery for many years.

The philosophy of Alois Lageder

The winemaking tradition of lagers goes back almost 200 years. Alois Lageder's great-grandfather founded the Alois Lageder winery on the edge of Bolzano's old town in 1855. Over the decades, wineries with vineyards in the best locations in South Tyrol were added. A new facility was completed in 1996 at the "Löwengang Ansitz" (Livestock Estate), acquired in 1934. Since then, the Lageder company has also been headquartered there. The new buildings are aesthetically pleasing and boast ingenious functionality while simultaneously utilizing alternative energy sources. The careful use of natural resources is as much an expression of Alois Lageder's life philosophy as his natural, environmentally friendly viticulture. The highest scores worldwide impressively confirm the achievements of this creative winemaker. The grapes come from select locations in Margreid and Kurtatsch. The vineyards are situated between 240 and 350 meters above sea level on gravelly, highly calcareous soil. The grapes are harvested by hand at peak ripeness and then subjected to a rigorous selection process. After maceration, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for twelve days. Finally, the wine matures for another 17 to 18 months in large oak barrels, allowing it to fully develop.

The smell and taste of Alois Lageder Cabernet Riserva

The Cabernet Riserva is a deep cherry red in the glass with light purple hues. The aroma reveals notes of cassis and black cherries, along with hints of leather, tobacco, and black pepper. Deep cherry red with light purple hues. On the palate, the wine is very spicy, with aromas of dark berries. A medium-bodied wine with a robust structure and good aromatic persistence on the finish.
