French wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux, who hasn't heard of it? No other wine region in the world produces as many quality wines as Bordeaux. Southwest France, in the Gironde estuary to be precise, boasts all the ingredients for producing top-notch wines. The combination of climate, soil, grape varieties, size, and tradition converges in the Bordeaux wine region.

The history of the Bordeaux wine region

The Romans established the first vineyards thousands of years ago. But after the fall of the Roman Empire, little remained of viticulture. Bordeaux redeveloped around the Middle Ages. Trade increased, and its favorable location made it ideal for exporting regional wines. Decades later, Bordeaux was taken over by the English. At that time, Bordeaux wines were primarily blends of red and white wine. The French called this Clairet, which the English later corrupted to Claret. Today, it is still used in English-speaking regions to describe red wine from this region. When the French later reclaimed the area, the trade war began. Ultimately, it was Napoleon who reshaped the wine world. Bordeaux even received an official Napoleonic classification.

The left bank of the Bordeaux

The Bordeaux wine region is essentially divided between the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank comprises the appellations of Medoc, Haut-Medoc, and Graves. The Right Bank boasts Saint-Émillion and Pomerol as its main appellations. First of all, Cabernet Sauvignon is widely planted on the Left Bank. This grape exudes tannin and acidity. It is a complex grape with warm aromas. One of the most famous wineries in this region is Rothschild. They offer exclusive wines, but fortunately also produce wines for every budget. The Baron Philippe de Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon Pays d'Oc is a beautiful, high-quality wine produced on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. An exceptionally pure aroma of blackcurrant, cherry, and blueberry, with hints of spice, leaps from the glass. On the palate, this red Cabernet Sauvignon offers a broad, rich flavor.

Wines from Bordeaux Right Bank

In Saint-Émillion and Pomerol, Merlot plays a leading role. This grape is known for its rich, soft, and sensual flavors. Merlot is often added to Cabernet Sauvignon to make the wine more accessible. The climate here is somewhat warmer, and the wet, limestone-clay soils are precisely what the Merlot grape loves. Although this grape is often used in blended wines, Rothschild is releasing a wine made from 100 percent Merlot. The Baron Philippe de Rothschild Merlot Pays d'Oc is a wine with great depth. Powerful aromas and soft tannins on the palate. But in addition to these single-varietal wines, we offer a wide range of quality wines from Bordeaux. Take a look and be amazed by everything Bordeaux has to offer.
