Campania

Wines from Campania

The good Italian life perfectly combines in Campania, the region near Naples. This region is known for pizza, mozzarella, seafood, and, importantly, fine wine. The grapes thrive here. Wine has been produced here for centuries, and in the Roman and Greek eras, this region was truly renowned for its wines. Nowadays, it's not the first region people think of when they think of Italian wines. But despite this, it shouldn't be underestimated. The climate and influences are perfect, resulting in surprising and, above all, high-quality wines.

The history of Campania

Campania was an important wine region in Roman times. Not only were the fine wines important, but its favorable location along trade routes also made this place important for trade. This introduced many countries to the area and its wines. For years, primarily simple wines were produced for mass production. But the eruption of Mount Vesuvius changed all that. It had a major impact on agriculture but ultimately provided a fresh start. They rediscovered their wines and invested in modern technologies. This led to a significant increase in the share of quality wines. Campania enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters. The hilly vineyards are located near Mount Vesuvius, which ensures the soil is very fertile. The region also boasts abundant clay and calcareous soil structures, making the terroir unique.

The pearl of Campania

Campania produces a large number of red wines, and the most famous and important grape variety is Aglianico. This premium grape boasts an exceptionally high quality and can be compared to Nebbiolo or Sangiovese. It therefore forms the basis of one of the finest wines from the Donnachiara winery. For years, the Donnachiara Taurasi has been considered one of the finest wines from southern Italy. After opening the bottle, your senses will be in overdrive. Refined aromas and a powerful flavor of blackberry, leather, and tobacco.

White wines are made using a wider variety of grape varieties: Falanghina, Fiano, and Greco di Tufo. Thanks to the volcanic soil and proximity to the sea, the grapes ripen exceptionally well and develop beautiful characteristics. Donnachiara Resilienza Falanghina Beneventano is a fine example of an impressive white wine from Campania. Fruity aromas with a long, pleasant finish.
