The Port house Feuerheerds has a very long history and is owned by the Van Zeller family. This family is one of the most renowned and important families in Portugal, having been producing port wines in their beloved Portugal since the 17th century. What a powerhouse Feuerheerd's Douro Reserva is! It all begins in the old vineyard in the Douro. There, the local grape varieties Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz are planted in the best locations. The sun can easily dissipate its heat to the vines, allowing the harvest to ripen evenly. The wind blowing across the Douro River cools the harvest and gives it space to fully develop. The Van Zeller family pays close attention to their vineyard, and this is reflected in the pure and, above all, powerful red wine. All grapes are harvested by hand, and this red wine is then aged for a full twelve months in old oak port barrels, making it unique.

As soon as we open this wine, a beautiful, ripe aroma of black fruit and light spices immediately emerges. Upon pouring, we see a dark red color with purple glints. The aroma reveals a stunning bouquet of black fruit, vanilla, spices, and a touch of licorice and cocoa. The palate is complex and full of beautiful, ripe tannins, a whole fruit basket with blackberries, cherries, and plums. On the back of the palate, there's a lovely spiciness, oak, and a hint of tobacco. Yes, this is one for a nice piece of barbecued meat.
