It's been a long time since we've tasted such a delicious, full-bodied, and refined Zweigelt from Austria. It's no wonder Pfaffl uses bunches from very old vines, some of which are decades old, for this red wine. These yield full-bodied and powerful Zweigelt grapes perfect for aging in wooden barrels. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are placed in small crates and transported to Pfaffl's press, where they await a gentle crushing. The result is stunning!

The best of Austria

Lower Austria, the region surrounding the capital Vienna, is Austria's largest wine-growing region. This is where Roman and Adelheid Pfaffl cultivate their wines. The unique loess soil structure and the ideal climate, where warm days alternate with cool nights, ensure excellent grape ripening. This is also the case for Austria's most important red grape: Zweigelt. Wines made from this grape are known for their fresh and fruity character. The Pfaffl winery was founded over 30 years ago by the Pfaffl family. Roman's winemaking not only garners numerous awards, but the winery has also been named the best in Austria several times! And we couldn't agree more.

Wood bearing for the Pfaffl Zweigelt Vom Haus

The free-flowing juice is of excellent quality, and thirty percent of it is aged in wooden barrels. Yes, now we've got it: a wine with great power and suppleness thanks to the aging. As soon as this Zweigelt Vom Haus is in the glass, you immediately smell a powerful aroma of blackcurrants, ripe cherries, light spices, and a whiff of the wooden barrel. The flavor is powerful, with ripe black fruit notes supported by herbs, cedar, light tannins, and plums. The finish is quite long; bring on the steak, pizza, or other dish. But of course, this red Pfaffl is also delicious on the couch.
