Vintage Report
The 2022 Piedmont vintage scored 89 points and is considered above average to excellent. The red wines from this year show great potential but may currently still be a bit youthful and tannic.
This delicious red wine comes from the Raimonda vineyard, one of the oldest vineyards on the 159-year-old Fontanafredda estate. This wine belongs to the most prestigious appellation: Barbera d'Alba, and is a beautiful example of traditional Piedmontese Barbera with an international approach. This Raimonda Barbera belongs to the Stripes line, Fontanafredda's most iconic line. This wine won the gold medal at the 2015 Berliner Wine Trophy.
The planting of Barbera grapes at high altitude
Fontanafredda is a historic winery in the Langhe region and a major producer of the prestigious Barolo and Barbera grapes. The Barbera grapes for this Raimonda come from vines planted on the slopes surrounding the village of Serralunga d'Alba, at an altitude of between 200 and 400 meters. The vineyards are planted facing east and west, with soils composed of a combination of clay, limestone, and marl. The grapes are harvested by hand in late September and early October. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using the traditional float method. Maceration lasts for 7 to 8 days at a temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius, followed by rapid malolactic fermentation. The wines are partially aged in large French and Slavonian oak barrels, while the remainder is stored in small barrels (225 and 300 liters) made of medium-toasted French and American oak for approximately one year. Finally, the wines are blended before bottling. What does Fontanafredda Raimonda Barbera d'Alba taste like?
This Raimonda Barbera d'Alba Fontanafredda has a wonderfully soft and creamy flavor! Its aroma is delicate, reminiscent of cherry jam, spicy with a hint of bay leaf, sweet red cherries and berries, and a touch of salmiak. The palate is enchanting, wonderfully soft and rounded, with lovely notes of black fruit, dark chocolate, bay leaf, and licorice. Intense with a long finish. Excellent with Indian or Middle Eastern dishes, but also with roast chicken and cheeses.Product details
