This wine is also called baby Barolo, a young wine from the Alba region made from the renowned Nebbiolo grape. The Paolo Manzone winery has a long history, having been active since 1999 when Paolo Manzone and his wife founded it. They renovated the winery and introduced more modern winemaking techniques, all without compromising the ancient Italian winemaking traditions prevalent in Piedmont. The winery is small, with only ten hectares of vineyards, but is renowned for its quality. Something Paolo Manzone is very proud of. Over the years, significant investments have been made, and all this culminates in, among other things, this red Paolo Manzone Mirine Nebbiolo d'Alba.

The old Nebbiolo vineyard for the Mirine

The vineyards for this red Mirine Nebbiolo d'Alba are located in the municipality of Alba in Piedmont. All vineyards are situated at altitudes of up to four hundred meters, creating a cool climate for the Nebbiolo grape. The fresh wind from the mountaintops provides a refreshing breeze throughout the day, which, combined with sharply falling nighttime temperatures, ensures a smooth harvest. This allows the Nebbiolo bunches to draw abundant nutrients from the soil, which consists primarily of limestone and clay. Once the grapes are ripe, harvesting begins early in the morning. Bunch by bunch is harvested by hand and transported in small wooden crates to Paolo Manzone. This explains the exceptional purity of this red wine; only the finest bunches are used in this red wine.

Wood bearing for the Paolo Manzone Mirine Nebbiolo d'Alba

Once the grapes are pressed, the entire wine is stored in French oak barrels. This period lasts for at least twelve months, and it develops into a true Piedmontese hero. The aroma reveals notes of violets, ripe red fruit, a hint of leather, and hints of cedar and vanilla. On the palate, it's a pure indulgence, with a richness of soft tannins on the tongue that makes this red wine so exciting. Numerous nuances of red fruit, such as strawberry and raspberry, are complemented by just the right amount of spice. The long and balanced finish completes the picture and reminds us of its bigger brother, the Barolo.
