Vintage Report

The grapes were harvested in the first week of October when they were optimally ripe and high in sugar. Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 25 degrees to preserve the fruity character.
Besides Barolo and Barbaresco, Pio Cesare is best known for his Barbera. His Barbera d'Alba comes primarily from vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba, but also from parts of the Val di Croce and Bon Giovanni. The full-bodied and juicy qualities of this Pio Cesare Barbera come together beautifully. Its provenance also explains why this red wine is so exceptionally powerful and full-bodied.

Quality wines from Pio Cesare for five generations

Pio Cesare was one of the first winemakers to believe in the high quality and potential of Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, and other Piedmontese wines. The world-famous, traditional winery he founded under his own name in the 19th century still stands in the historic center of Alba. The walls of the cellars date back to the Roman Empire. Today, the fifth generation of the family owns the winery, managed by Pio Cesares, Pio Boffa, his great-grandson. The winery's high-quality products are found in restaurants and hotels worldwide and are highly regarded by wine connoisseurs. The range includes Barolo and Barbaresco wines, as well as other important red and white wines from Lower Piedmont.

The vinification of Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba

The grapes are harvested in the first week of October, when they are perfectly ripe and rich in sugar. Fermentation lasts about ten to twelve days at a controlled temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. This preserves the fruit in the wine. Some of the wine is aged in oak barrels in Pio Cesare's cellars. This way, this Barbera d'Alba retains its softness and gains some depth through aging. The result is a ruby-red wine with a pleasant aroma of fruit, delicious ripe black cherries, a lovely sultry aroma, and a hint of vanilla. This wine is broad and seductive. The palate is pure and powerful, with sweet cherries and vanilla, a touch of chocolate, smoky, broad, and juicy, with a beautiful length and complexity.
