This latest addition to the 12 e Mezzo series is a true sensation, as it's pressed exclusively from Pinot Grigio grapes grown in the warm climate of Puglia. The name 12 e Mezzo comes from the series' alcohol content, as this white wine has twelve and a half percent alcohol. Winemaker Cosimo Varvaglione aims to demonstrate with this series that even lower-alcohol wines can be excellent and perfectly balanced. Well, we can leave that to him, because this Pinot Grigio Di Puglia is another joy to drink.

The harvest of the Pinot Grigio in the heel of the boot

The Pinot Grigio vines were planted several years ago, but the first good harvest wasn't until 2019. The vines have deep roots and can absorb a lot of influences from the rich soil, which consists mainly of limestone and clay. The climate is perfect for Pinot Grigio, with plenty of sunshine and cool winds from the Adriatic Sea. The fresh breeze is very important for maintaining sufficient freshness in the grapes. All in all, the Pinot Grigio grapes grow exceptionally well and are harvested early in the morning to prevent damage and oxidation to the bunches.

The aroma and taste of the 12th Mezzo Pinot Grigio Di Puglia

It's a feast, but we already knew that about the wines from 12 e Mezzo. Upon opening the bottle, we immediately smell the Italian sun with nuances of ripe pear, acacia, and citrus. Winemaker Cosimo Varvaglione surprises us again, as we pour, revealing a golden yellow color with green glints. With our noses over the glass, we detect even more impressions of citrus peel, pear compote, and some floral notes. The palate is a feast for the eyes, refined and round on the palate with a very pleasant mouthfeel. Deep flavors of apple, pear, and, of course, citrus fruit. On the back of the tongue, a flurry of mint leaves and a touch of grapefruit. This 12 e Mezzo Pinot Grigio Di Puglia is a true addition to Varvaglione's top line.
