Vintage Report

The 2021 vintage in Sicily scored an excellent 93 points. The wines are currently still a bit youthful and tannic, which means they will develop beautifully over the coming years.
Imagine the graceful black-and-white magpies, known as Gazzerotta, soaring above the autumnal fields of Sicily. These beautiful birds have lent their name to an equally impressive wine: Pellegrino Gazzerotta Nero d'Avola. Made from the juicy Nero d'Avola grapes, this wine is a smooth red treat with a firm backbone, straight from the sun-drenched vineyards of Mazara del Vallo.

The Magic of Pellegrino's Vineyards

The vines for this exceptional wine are deeply rooted in clayey, mineral-rich soils, just 20 meters above sea level. Although the proximity to the sea increases the risk of extreme temperatures, the grapes overcome this challenge with flying colors. Thanks to Pellegrino's dedication and expertise, a true wine champion is born from these challenging conditions! Since 1880, the Pellegrino family has dedicated itself to perfecting the art of winemaking in Sicily. Seven generations later, the Pellegrino name is synonymous with tradition, passion, and exceptional Sicilian wines. Their profound knowledge of the land and winemaking techniques has made them one of Sicily's leading wine families.

The Creation of Pellegrino Gazzerotta Nero d'Avola

The harvest period for this wine is mid- to late September. After harvest, careful maceration follows at controlled temperatures, after which the wine ferments in stainless steel tanks. But that's not all! The wine then matures for 12 months in oak barrels and is then rested for another 12 months in stainless steel tanks.

Taste the Passion in Pellegrino Gazzerotta Nero d'Avola

When poured, this wine shines with deep red hues and hints of garnet. Your nose is treated to rich aromas of blackberries, plums, and cherries, complemented by the delicate scent of violets. A sip reveals a soft, rounded palate, enriched with dried plums and spicy notes of rosemary. A true treat for any wine lover! So, what are you waiting for? Dive into the enchanting world of Pellegrino Gazzerotta Nero d'Avola and be swept away by the flavors of Sicily!
