Castel Firmian Pinot Grigio Trentino DOC Italy
Castel Firmian Pinot Grigio Trentino DOC is a wine that demonstrates why Trentino is considered one of the most reliable provenances for Pinot Grigio. Within the Castel Firmian label, Mezzacorona focuses on wines that express the regional identity clearly and purely. This Pinot Grigio is a prime example: restrained at first glance, yet remarkably expressive once it opens, precisely as the Trentino style is intended.
Vineyards and region
The grapes come from Italy, from Trentino, within the Trentino DOC appellation. The vineyards are located in the region's fertile valleys, where constant air currents and distinct temperature variations between day and night create aromatic refinement and freshness. Pinot Grigio thrives here, developing a more pronounced and nuanced character in this climate than in warmer regions. Mezzacorona has been working in this region for decades, exploiting these conditions to produce consistently fresh and balanced wines.
Vinification and maturation
The grapes are harvested by hand and rigorously selected. Vinification follows a classic white wine method, with a brief cold maceration to add structure and aromatic depth. This is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The use of wood is deliberately avoided, allowing the fresh fruit and floral notes of Pinot Grigio to fully shine. The alcohol content is 12.5%, contributing to the light and elegant style.
Grape composition
Pinot Grigio – Trentino
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Grigio. In Trentino, this grape produces wines with refined aromas, fresh acidity, and a clear balance between fruit and structure.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
The color is straw yellow. The nose reveals aromas of pear interwoven with floral notes of chamomile and magnolia. On the palate, the wine is elegant and pure, with delicate acidity and a balanced structure. The finish is fresh and refined, without being sharp. Serve this wine preferably at 10–12°C. It pairs well with appetizers, fish, and white meats, and is also excellent as an aperitif.
