The precise location for the white Garganega grapes used to make this San Michele Soave Classico is Monteforte d'Alpone. The soil structure is a treasure trove, packed with volcanic rocks, clay, and basalt. From this soil, the grapes draw incredible strength and purity. They also withstand hot summers thanks to the vines' deep roots. When the harvest is ripe, the grapes are picked before the sun shines on them. This prevents bruising and oxidation during transport. After harvest, the entire wine is aged for several months in the Ca'Rugate wine cellars.
It's a celebration, and with 91 points from James Suckling, which he recently awarded, it's a renowned wine. As soon as the bottle is opened, we immediately smell the beautiful, vibrant aroma of a top Soave Classico. It evokes notes of wildflowers, chamomile, irises, and elderflower. Pouring, we're struck by the clear color with a green shimmer. All our senses are stimulated, and with our nose to the glass, we're transported to Italy, with beautiful aromas of citrus, lime, grapefruit, sulfur, and a touch of white flowers. The taste is what we've come to expect from Ca Rugate: pure and very rich, with lovely nuances of almonds, white fruit, lime, and a touch of mint.
