High quality wines from Carmen winery
Christian Lanz founded the Carmen winery in 1850, naming it after his beloved wife, Carmen. In the early years, it led a relatively unassuming existence. This changed when it was acquired by the Claro family. Significant investment was made possible, resulting in the creation of one of Chile's most modern wineries. Built at the foot of the Andes, the new cellars were constructed so that all movement of the wine occurred solely by gravity. This allowed the winery to avoid the use of pumps, a method that can damage the wine and reduce its quality. All grapes are sourced from their own vineyards, prioritizing quality over quantity. To achieve this, Carmen Vineyards has restricted yields. This results in wines that are more powerful and full-bodied than many Chilean wines. The grapes for this wine come from Alto Maipo. Here, they benefit from the high daytime temperatures and the sharp drop in temperature at night, when the mountain winds pick up. The high altitude further cools them down at night, resulting in grapes with exceptional flavor.
