Franc Lizêr Merlot 0.0% is a non-alcoholic red wine from Friuli, developed by the innovative Lea Winery. This wine combines classic Italian Merlot aromas with modern dealcoholization techniques, offering a worthy alternative for lovers of characterful, alcohol-free red wine. Franc Lizêr literally means "free" and "light" in Friulian – precisely what this wine embodies.
Vineyards and region
The wine is produced on the Lea Winery estate in Friuli Venezia Giulia, in northeastern Italy. They have 104 hectares of vineyards, 17 of which have been certified organic since the 2022 harvest. The rest is in transition. All grapes for Franc Lizêr are grown and processed in-house, giving them complete control over the quality of the final product.
Vinification and maturation
After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. The alcohol is then removed using a patented membrane technique that doesn't involve heating. This optimally preserves color, structure, and aromas. The result is a wine that retains its original character but is completely alcohol-free.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions
The wine is deep ruby red in color, with aromas of red fruit like cherries and raspberries, complemented by a light spice. It is soft on the palate, with mild tannins and a lingering, smooth finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees Celsius with fresh cheeses, meat dishes, or as a stylish non-alcoholic aperitif.
