Winemaker Beth Liston also has a penchant for the Zinfandel grape. The grape that helped put California's wine region on the map and, incidentally, thrives in the warm climate. According to Liston, the beautiful and rich quality of Dark Horse wines is due to a blend of classic and innovative techniques. For her, it all starts with the vines of Dark Horse; every day she takes a ride on her black horse to check on her grapes. This is also where the name of this beautiful winery comes from, and if you look closely at the horse's head, you'll see a wine glass. This demonstrates that the black horse is crucial to the wines, because only with a perfect harvest can top-notch wines be made from the Zinfandel grape.

Wood aging for the Dark Horse Zinfandel

When the Zinfandel grapes reach perfect ripeness, they are harvested in the early morning. This meticulous work ensures only the finest bunches are picked for this red Dark Horse. They are transported in small crates to the Dark Horse press, where the beautiful Zinfandel spa is then aged in oak barrels for at least eight months. During this period, it develops its style and power, becoming the Original Dark Horse wine.
