Zinfandel, who doesn't know it? One of Francis Ford Coppola's favorite grapes. What not many people know is that the world-famous director of films like The Godfather also owns a beautiful winery. A winery he founded out of a family passion! His grandfather used to make wines on a very small scale in the cellar of the apartment complex where he lived, using homemade concrete tanks. To continue this tradition, Francis Ford Coppola was looking for a summer house with a large cellar where he could make wine the same way his grandfather had once written. However, this got a bit out of hand, and the Francis Ford Coppola Winery was born! And not entirely without success; what beautiful wines!

Back to Zinfandel. A grape we encounter in few countries. Primarily in America and Southern Italy, but then under the name Primitivo. The Zinfandel grapes for this Diamond Collection are grown in various regions. Starting with very old vines in Amador County, they are also grown in Paso Robles and Sonoma County. Because Paso Robles receives little rainfall, the grapes develop a great depth, which is certainly noticeable in this red wine. After the vinification process, this delicious American wine is aged in oak barrels. Contrary to what one might expect, Coppola uses French oak barrels for this. These barrels add more softness and suppleness to the wine. Curious now? We are!

What does Coppola's Zinfandel taste like?

The color is a beautiful deep ruby ​​red. On the nose, we discovered a sultry aroma in this Francis Coppola Zinfandel with plenty of spice, raspberry, and cherry, but also a touch of vanilla. A bouquet of intense aromas! The Zinfandel grape is very noticeable, superb. The taste, just like the aroma, is a sight to behold: abundant richness and softness, with notes of jam, pepper, cream, and a light spiciness. But above all, ripe and smooth! The finish is phenomenal, smooth yet wonderfully full.
