Its location by the Andes ensures a distinct difference between day and night temperatures.
- Location / origin: Alto Valle de Uco, the high part of the Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina.
- Altitude: The vineyards involved are situated at more than 1,200 m above sea level.
- Soil: Coarse, stony material allows excess water to drain away easily.
- Climate & influences: Sunny, warm days are alternated with cool nights due to air descending from the Andes. This helps the grapes develop aromas and maintain freshness.
During fermentation, the contact between juice and skins is actively managed.
- Fermentation: With the rack and return technique, the fermenting juice is temporarily separated from the skins and then returned. This draws color, flavor, and tannins from the skins into the wine.
- Oak aging: Maturation in oak barrels adds structure and spicy wood accents and helps soften the tannins.
The fruity character and supple texture are central.
- Merlot – Uco Valley: Provides ripe red fruit, round tannins, and a full, accessible flavor.
