Within the Primitivo di Manduria appellation, the Riserva holds a special place. Legally, a Riserva must be aged for a minimum of two years, including at least nine months in oak. Riservas from Manduria are among the most prestigious and age-proof Primitivos available, often suitable for ten years or more.

Grape and style

Primitivo produces wines with a deep ruby-red to purple-red color. Young Primitivo often has a vibrant intensity, while older vintages evolve toward a warmer, garnet hue. The palate often reveals notes of plum, black cherry, and berry, complemented by spicy notes and sometimes a hint of chocolate or tobacco in oak-aged varieties. Storage and serving

Primitivo is usually at its best between five and eight years after harvest, although top wines from Manduria can age even longer. Serve the wine at around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius to best bring out the balance of fruit, strength, and spice.
