This Rioja comes from the eastern part of the region, near Alfaro.
- Location / origin: The La Montesa vineyard on the foothills of Monte Yerga, near Alfaro in Rioja Oriental, Spain.
- Altitude & exposition: The vineyard is situated at approximately 550 m, with an east to southeast orientation. The altitude provides cooling in this warm part of Rioja.
- Vineyards: The grapes come from organically managed plots.
Careful selection and long aging soften the structure.
- Selection & fermentation: The grapes are selected, destemmed, and crushed. Fermentation begins with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks; approximately 35 days of skin contact provide color and tannins.
- Aging: 12 months in oak barrels, followed by 12 months of bottle aging before release.
- Finishing: The wine is fined and unfiltered.
Garnacha determines the style of the blend.
- 95% Garnacha – La Montesa, Rioja: Provides juicy red fruit, a floral aroma, and a supple structure.
- Bobal – La Montesa, Rioja: Is part of the small additional planting and contributes color and structure.
