Louis Latour Bourgogne Gamay 2023 0.375L Burgundy, France
Louis Latour Bourgogne Gamay 2023 0.375L is a half bottle of red Burgundy with the fresh, fruity charm of the Beaujolais crus and the precise house style of Maison Louis Latour. This regional appellation has existed since the 2011 vintage and is exclusively permitted to use grapes from the 10 Beaujolais crus, giving the wine more origin and structure than a simple Beaujolais. The half bottle is ideal when 1 or 2 people want to enjoy a smooth, slightly chilled glass of red with charcuterie, roasted meat, or cheese.
Vineyards and region
Bourgogne Gamay is located at the intersection of Burgundy and Beaujolais, with grapes from recognized cru origins.
• Location / Origin: The grapes for Bourgogne Gamay may only come from the Beaujolais crus: Brouilly, Chénas, Chiroubles, Côte-de-Brouilly, Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, and Saint-Amour. Grapes from ordinary Beaujolais or Beaujolais-Villages are not permitted for this appellation.
• Appellation: What is Bourgogne Gamay? Bourgogne Gamay is a regional Burgundy appellation that has existed since the 2011 vintage and is intended for fruity, fresh red wines made from Gamay from the Beaujolais crus.
• Soil: The vines stand on granite, clay, and limestone. Granite pairs well with the fresh, juicy side of Gamay, while clay and limestone provide extra structure and tension.
• Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are on average 25–35 years old, and the yield is around 50 hl per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand, allowing for careful processing of the fruit.
Grape composition
This red Burgundy is made from Gamay.
• Gamay – Bourgogne Gamay: Gamay gives this wine its red fruit, lively freshness, supple tannins, and immediate drinkability. From the Beaujolais crus, the grape gains more depth and structure than in a broader, simpler Beaujolais style.
Vinification and aging
The vinification focuses on fruit, freshness, and a harmonious tannin structure.
• Fermentation: The wine ferments traditionally in open vats and undergoes full malolactic conversion. This method helps to extract fruit, color, and soft tannins from the grapes, while making the acidity feel rounder.
• Aging: The wine ages for 8–10 months in stainless steel tanks. This preserves the red fruit, freshness, and pure Gamay expression, without any influence from wood.
• Aging potential: This Bourgogne Gamay has an aging potential of 2–3 years. This suits the fresh, fruit-driven style, which focuses on suppleness and immediate drinking pleasure.
Tasting notes and serving tips
In the glass, Louis Latour Bourgogne Gamay 2023 has a deep ruby red color. The aroma is complex and fruity, with clear notes of red fruit. The taste is fresh, typical, and structured, with harmonious tannins and an elegant, subtle length.
• Serving temperature: Serve this Bourgogne Gamay at 14–15 °C, allowing the red fruit, fresh structure, and soft tannins to come together beautifully.
• Dishes: Delicious with charcuterie, roasted meat, light meat dishes, and cheeses.
